The Micmac Rights Association would like to invite all our members to attend the following upcoming events. The Micmac Rights Association meeting will begin at 4pm at the Legends Gaming Centre at 15 Legends Ave. in Millbrook First Nation on Monday, Sept 30th, and not at 10am as previously announced. A meal will be served at 6pm, and there will be a DJ and a dance from 7pm to 9pm.
On October 1st, 2024 the Micmac Rights Association will be hosting a public meeting with former National Chief Del Riley at the Halifax Public Library (5440 Spring Garden Rd, Halifax) beginning at 5:30pm on the topic of the constitutional protection of Micmac rights.
Also, there will be a series of events held by the Mi’kmaq Grand Council to commemorate Treaty Day on Oct 1st in Halifax. We encourage all our members to take part in these events. The schedule is as follows:

10:30am Mi’kmaw church service @ Saint Mary’s Cathedral Basilica (5221 Spring Road Halifax NS).
12:00pm Government House flag raising hosted by Lt Governor of Nova Scotia (1451 Barrington St. Halifax NS) Ceremony Outside/Reception inside.
Opening: Drumming, smudging of space, opening prayer; Flag Raising song; Flag raising by His Honour Lieutenant Governor and Kji Saqamaw (Grand Chief); O’ Canada in Mi’kmaq. Remarks from His Honour The Honourable Arthur J LeBlanc, Lieutenant Governor and Kji Saqamaw (Grand Chief) Norman J Sylliboy followed by the traditional gift exchange between The Crown and Mi’kmaq. Brief reception inside Government House hosted by Their Honours.
1:15pm Veteran’s Parade from Government House to Peace and Friendship Park (1170 Hollis St, Halifax NS). Welcome by emcee Senator Dan Christmas, followed by Municipal Treaty Day Proclamation by Halifax Mayor (or designate) and brief remarks by L’nu Veteran leader and Kji Saqamaw.
2:15-3:45pm Treaty Day Awards in the Kenneth Rowe Room @ Pier 21 (1055 Marginal Road, Halifax NS). Emcee Senator Dan Christmas; Welcome from The Honourable Brian Wong, Minister of Nova Scotia Office of L’nu Affairs (as provincial host of Treaty Day Awards ceremony, TBC); Treaty Day remarks from Kji Keptin (Grand Captain) Antle Denny, Sante’ Mawio’mi; Federal Representative; Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw Chiefs Co-Chair.
Mi’kmaq and Provincial representatives will present awards to Elders and youth from Mi’kmaw communities across the province.
